Five Cruise Passengers Arrested After Nassau Port Brawl Escalates Into Clash With Police

Five cruise passengers have been arrested after a fight at Nassau Cruise Port spiralled into a violent confrontation with police officers, leaving four members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force injured and causing damage at a local police station.

The incident unfolded shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Monday, 8th June, when officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving several cruise visitors in the busy port area.

Authorities confirmed that three women and two men, all citizens of the United States, were taken into custody following the altercation.

Video footage captured at the scene and widely shared on social media shows a chaotic confrontation between passengers, with individuals exchanging punches and pushing one another as port personnel attempted to intervene and separate those involved.

While police have not disclosed what led to the dispute, footage circulating online appears to show the confrontation involving a younger group of passengers and an elderly couple. The circumstances surrounding the initial argument remain under investigation.

    Situation Escalated At Police Station

The disturbance did not end when the passengers were removed from the port.

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers transported the five suspects to the Tourism Police Station for processing. However, police allege that while preparations were being made to search the individuals, the group began “violently struggling” with officers.

Investigators said one female suspect threw a chair through a glass door, shattering it. During the same incident, a male suspect allegedly kicked out the remaining glass in what police believe was an attempt to escape custody.

Additional police units were dispatched to the station to assist in bringing the situation under control, and officers were able to restrain the individuals involved.

The five passengers could now face multiple charges, including assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, fighting in a public place, malicious damage and disorderly behaviour.

    Four Officers Injured

The confrontation resulted in injuries to four police officers.

According to authorities, two officers suffered blows to their bodies during the struggle, while another sustained a cut to the mouth. A fourth officer suffered a serious shoulder injury and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Police have not released an update on the condition of the injured officer.

The passengers involved in the original fight also received minor injuries and were treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene.

A witness who recorded part of the altercation, Facebook user Joshua H. Mott, claimed the passengers were travelling aboard one of the Royal Caribbean ships visiting Nassau that day. Officials have not publicly confirmed which vessel the group sailed on.

Cruise schedules show Nassau welcomed six ships on 8th June. The

River Cruise Captain Removed After Failing Alcohol Test During Waterway Inspection

A river cruise captain carrying more than 100 passengers has been removed from duty after failing an alcohol test during a joint enforcement operation on one of Belgium’s busiest waterways.

Authorities confirmed the captain was operating a river cruise vessel with 106 passengers on board when he tested above the legal alcohol limit during an inspection near the Albert Canal. The operation was carried out by Belgian and Dutch enforcement agencies and involved checks on multiple commercial vessels travelling through the region.

According to a statement issued by Belgian police, inspectors examined nine commercial ships and one river cruise vessel as part of the coordinated action.

“In total, 9 vessels and 1 river cruise ship were inspected. All active crew members took a breathalyzer test,” Belgian police said in a statement translated into English.

“The skipper of a river cruise ship carrying 106 passengers tested positive for alcohol. His boating license was immediately revoked.”

The captain was immediately relieved of his duties and replaced by another qualified officer so the voyage could continue safely. Authorities have not released the captain’s identity, and the vessel involved has not been officially named.

Under Belgian law, the alcohol limit for recreational operators is 0.5 g/l of blood or 0.22 mg/l of exhaled breath. For professional operators, including those responsible for commercial vessels, the permitted limit is significantly lower at 0.2 g/l of blood or 0.09 mg/l of exhaled breath.

In addition to losing his licence, the captain could also face financial penalties from Flemish waterway authorities.

    Questions Remain Over Ship Identity

Officials have revealed only limited details about the vessel involved, confirming that it was sailing between Antwerp in Belgium and Maastricht in the Netherlands at the time of the inspection. The ship is also understood to be Swiss-owned.

Based on vessel movements in the region during early June, several river cruise operators had ships travelling along similar routes. Industry tracking data indicates that vessels operated by Swiss-based river cruise companies, including ships from the VIVA Cruises fleet, were active in the area during the same period.

Other major European river cruise operators also had vessels sailing between Antwerp and Maastricht around the time of the inspection. One vessel that followed a broadly similar itinerary was a Viking-operated ship sailing as part of a longer journey through the Netherlands and Belgium, although authorities have not linked any specific vessel or cruise line to the incident.

As a result, the identity of the ship involved remains unconfirmed.

Cruise Industry Maintains Strict Alcohol Rules

The incident is highly unusual within the cruise industry, where alcohol policies for officers and crew are generally among the strictest in the wider travel sector.

Royal Caribbean Marks Two Major Newbuild Milestones With Legend Delivery And Oasis 7 Construction Start

Royal Caribbean has celebrated a landmark week for its fleet expansion, reaching two significant milestones in the construction of future cruise ships. The cruise line has officially taken delivery of Legend of the Seas, the third vessel in its groundbreaking Icon Class, while also marking the start of physical assembly for its next Oasis-class ship, currently known as Oasis 7.

The developments underline Royal Caribbean’s ambitious growth plans, with multiple new ships already under construction and several more scheduled to join the fleet through the end of the decade.

Legend Of The Seas Delivered Ahead Of Summer Debut

Hundreds gathered at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland on 10th June 2026 as Royal Caribbean formally took ownership of Legend of the Seas during a delivery ceremony attended by more than 1,200 guests, crew members, executives and shipbuilding partners.

The handover took place inside the ship’s AquaDome, one of the defining features of the Icon Class, and was led by Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm.

“We’re incredibly proud to introduce Legend of the Seas to vacationers and continue the legacy of the revolutionary Icon Class,

“This wouldn’t be possible without the many talented individuals that came together to deliver what is truly the ultimate family vacation, and we look forward to making Legend’s debut this summer a legendary one.”

    Michael Bayley

The ceremony brings to a close a construction process that began with the ship’s steel-cutting ceremony in January 2024. While the vessel has now officially entered Royal Caribbean’s fleet, work is not yet complete. The ship will sail to Cadiz, Spain, where final finishing touches will be completed before entering service.

At 248,663 gross tons and measuring 1,196 feet in length, Legend of the Seas is the third ship in the Icon Class, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas.

The ship will feature 28 dining venues, including the Hollywoodland Supper Club, seven pools and water experiences, a production of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Crown’s Edge skywalk and zipline attraction, and the three-storey Ultimate Family Townhouse accommodation.

Legend also becomes the fourth Royal Caribbean ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the third Icon-class vessel built by Meyer Turku.

Her inaugural voyage is scheduled for 4th July 2026, several weeks earlier than the originally announced debut date of 2nd August. The seven-night Western Mediterranean sailing will depart from Civitavecchia near Rome and call at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and La Spezia.

The ship will spend the summer and autumn operating Mediterranean itineraries before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale on 25th October 2026 for her first Caribbean season. Winter cruises will range from six to eight nights

  • Royal Caribbean Sued After Passenger Trips Over Mobility Scooter In Ship Casino

Royal Caribbean Sued After Passenger Trips Over Mobility Scooter In Ship Casino

A former Royal Caribbean passenger is seeking damages from the cruise line after allegedly suffering serious injuries when she tripped over a mobility scooter left in a walkway aboard Jewel of the Seas.

Colleen Parsons, a Florida resident, filed a negligence lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Group in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida on 18th May 2026. The claim stems from an incident that occurred nearly a year earlier, on 22nd June 2025, while she was sailing aboard the Radiance-class vessel.

According to court filings, Parsons was visiting Casino Royale on Deck 6 when she became involved in an accident that she says was caused by an improperly parked mobility scooter. She alleges that the casino was crowded at the time and that another guest bumped into her, causing her to lose balance and fall over the scooter, which had reportedly been left in a passenger walkway.

The lawsuit does not target the scooter’s owner or any other guest who may have been involved. Instead, Parsons argues that Royal Caribbean failed in its responsibility to provide a safe environment for passengers.

As a result of the fall, Parsons suffered a fractured left wrist that required surgery. The injury reportedly left permanent scarring and led to ongoing damages that form the basis of her compensation claim.

    Claims Focus On Safety Procedures

The lawsuit alleges that Royal Caribbean was negligent in several ways, including failing to maintain safe walkways, failing to warn guests about potential hazards, and failing to establish or enforce adequate policies regarding the operation and parking of mobility scooters onboard.

Parsons’ legal team argues that crew members should have taken steps to prevent scooters from obstructing public areas and that the cruise line did not properly monitor conditions within the casino.

Casino Royale aboard Jewel of the Seas covers approximately 6,459 square feet and features around 195 gaming machines along with 12 gaming tables. While Parsons described the venue as overcrowded at the time of the incident, no official information has been released regarding occupancy levels in the casino when the accident occurred.

Royal Caribbean has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.

Jewel of the Seas continues to operate regular three- and four-night Caribbean and Bahamas cruises from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with no reported operational changes related to the case.

Cruise Line Already Has Mobility Scooter Rules

The lawsuit comes despite Royal Caribbean maintaining established policies governing the use and storage of mobility scooters onboard its ships.

The cruise line requires scooters to be stored and charged inside guest staterooms when not in use. The policy is designed to keep corridors, elevator lobbies and emergency routes clear in the event of an evacuation.

    Royal Caribbean’s guidance also states:

“Mobility scooters must be stored and recharged in

  • Former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Sues Company Over Alleged $18 Million Retirement Deal

Former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Sues Company Over Alleged $18 Million Retirement Deal

Former Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chief executive Frank Del Rio has filed a lawsuit against the cruise company he once led, claiming he was denied millions of dollars in compensation that he says was promised when he agreed to step down from the top role.

The lawsuit, filed on 5th May 2026 in Miami-Dade County, Florida, names Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), NCL (Bahamas) Ltd., and former directors Russell Galbut, Harry Curtis, Mary Landry and Stella David as defendants.

According to the complaint, Del Rio alleges that he agreed to retire earlier than he otherwise would have after being assured he would receive a long-term consulting arrangement worth approximately $18 million. He claims the agreement would have paid him $1 million per quarter through the end of 2027 in exchange for supporting the company’s succession plans and transitioning out of the chief executive position.

Del Rio argues that stepping aside resulted in a significant loss of future earnings, as he would have continued receiving substantial compensation had he remained in the role.

The veteran cruise executive served as president and chief executive of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings from 2015 until June 2023. During his tenure, the company expanded significantly across its Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands.

When his retirement was announced, NCLH said Del Rio would remain involved with the company as a senior advisor to the board while Harry Sommer assumed leadership of the organisation.

Consulting Agreement At Centre Of Dispute

The lawsuit centres on the consulting arrangement that followed Del Rio’s departure.

According to the complaint, the written agreement Del Rio ultimately signed provided for only two-and-a-half years of consulting services, valued at approximately $10 million. Del Rio alleges this fell well short of what had been promised during discussions surrounding his retirement.

He further claims that company representatives assured him the shorter agreement would eventually be extended to reflect the full compensation package. However, he alleges that no extension was ever provided and that the payments ultimately ceased.

The lawsuit includes claims of fraud, breach of contract and conspiracy. Del Rio is seeking damages and has requested a jury trial.

As of publication, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has not publicly commented on the litigation.

    Leadership Turmoil At Cruise Giant

The legal action arrives during a period of significant change at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

Del Rio’s departure in 2023 marked the beginning of a major leadership transition, with Harry Sommer moving from his role as president of Norwegian Cruise Line to chief executive of the parent company.

That stability proved short-lived. In February 2026, Sommer stepped down as chief executive and was succeeded by former Burger King CEO John Chidsey.

    The company’s governance st

  • Norwegian Star Overhauls 2027 Cruise With New Embarkation Port And Completely Revised Itinerary

Norwegian Star Overhauls 2027 Cruise With New Embarkation Port And Completely Revised Itinerary

Guests booked on a 9-night Norwegian Star cruise in November 2027 are facing a major itinerary shake-up after Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed the sailing will now depart from a different country and visit an entirely new collection of destinations.

The voyage, scheduled to begin on 13th November 2027, was originally planned as a one-way sailing from Lisbon, Portugal, to Barcelona, Spain. The itinerary included calls in Portugal, the Canary Islands, Morocco and Spain.

Under the revised plans, however, the ship will now embark from Tarragona, Spain, instead of Lisbon. Norwegian Cruise Line told guests the change was necessary because of port availability issues in the Portuguese capital.

The adjustment also includes a slight alteration to the ship’s departure time. Rather than leaving Lisbon at 4 pm as originally scheduled, Norwegian Star will now sail from Tarragona at 5 pm.

The change mirrors a similar move previously announced for Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Dawn, which is also set to switch embarkation ports from Lisbon to another location for a sailing in October 2026.

Five Ports Removed From Original Schedule

While a change in embarkation port can be disruptive, the most significant aspect of the update is the complete redesign of the cruise itinerary itself.

In a notification sent to guests, the cruise line confirmed that several originally scheduled ports have been removed.

“As part of this change, our visits to Funchal, Portugal, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Arrecife (Lanzarote), Spain, and Agadir and Casablanca, Morocco, have been removed from the itinerary,

“In their place the journey has evolved into a Mediterranean-focused itinerary, now featuring visits to Marseille, France; La Spezia, Livorno, Civitavecchia, and Salerno, Italy; and Valletta, Malta.”

Cruise line’s email to booked guests

The revised route shifts the cruise from an Atlantic and North African-focused itinerary to one centred almost entirely on the western and central Mediterranean.

For many travellers, the new ports represent an entirely different holiday experience. The replacement destinations are located more than 1,800 miles from the original ports and offer distinctly different cultures, landscapes and sightseeing opportunities.

The changes also affect the sailing schedule itself. The first full day of the cruise, which had originally been planned as a sea day, will now be spent in Marseille, France.

Only the final two days of the voyage remain unchanged. Norwegian Star will still spend 20th November at sea before visiting Palma de Mallorca on 21st November from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. The ship is also still scheduled to arrive in Barcelona for disembarkation at 7 a.m. on 22nd November 2027.

    Guests Divided Over Extensive Changes

With the sailing still around 17 months away, many guests have time to reassess their travel plans and decide whether the revised itinerary still suits their holiday prefe

What you’re certainly not expecting is to spend an extended weekend in port whilst engineers scramble to fix your ship’s propulsion system, forcing the cancellation of virtually your entire itinerary. Yet that’s precisely the situation facing passengers aboard Holland America Line’s Zaandam, whose 3rd June sailing has been dramatically curtailed due to technical difficulties that have left the 61,400-gross-ton vessel unable to maintain normal cruising speeds. The propulsion problems have necessitated the cancellation of multiple ports of call and one of Alaska’s most sought-after experiences, leaving what should have been a dream holiday memorable for all the wrong reasons. Propulsion Problems Force Extended Stay In Juneau The seven-night voyage departed Vancouver as scheduled on 3rd June 2026, and initially, all appeared to be going according to plan. Guests enjoyed the scenic glacier cruising they’d anticipated, and the ship arrived in Juneau – Alaska’s charming capital city, accessible only by sea or air – on Friday morning. However, rather than departing at the scheduled 10 pm that evening to continue northward to Skagway, Zaandam remained firmly moored whilst the crew worked to address the developing technical issues. In an announcement shared with guests, the captain explained the predicament in straightforward terms: “We’re dealing with a technical issue affecting one of our propulsion systems, which means we’re unable to sail at our normal speed. Because of that, we’ll remain in Juneau overnight so additional technical specialists can come on board and assist with repairs.” For cruise passengers, particularly those who’ve saved for what might genuinely be a once-in-a-lifetime Alaskan adventure, the news would have been deeply disappointing. Alaska cruises are rarely cheap, and for many travellers, the journey involves expensive flights, potential hotel stays, and considerable advance planning. The itinerary isn’t merely a list of ports – it’s a carefully curated experience designed to showcase the best of America’s Last Frontier. Skagway, Ketchikan And Glacier Bay Cancelled The decision to remain in Juneau overnight meant that passengers who had booked Cruisetours – those popular land-based extensions that combine cruise sailing with inland exploration – and were scheduled to join Zaandam in Skagway on Saturday, 6th June, found their plans abruptly altered. Rather than boarding in the historic Gold Rush town of Skagway, approximately 85 miles north-northwest of Juneau, these guests were instead transported to Juneau to join the ship there. When Zaandam did finally depart Juneau on Saturday evening, it wasn’t to continue the planned itinerary. Instead, the ship set a direct course

You must only respond with the modified content: Royal Caribbean’s ambitious plans for a new Perfect Day destination in Mexico are far from dead, with the Mexican government now in active discussions about relocating the project after environmental concerns scuppered the original Mahahual site. The news comes as a glimmer of hope for cruise enthusiasts who were disappointed when Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources rejected the proposed development in May. Whilst the original location won’t be moving forward, it appears both Royal Caribbean and Mexican officials are keen to find a solution that works for everyone – including the country’s precious ecosystems. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum revealed during a press conference on 27th May that government representatives are in talks with the cruise line to explore alternative locations where the development could proceed without the environmental challenges that derailed the Mahahual plans. “We are in talks with the company to see if there are any locations where the project could be developed without these environmental impacts, and we will first analyse whether it truly has environmental viability,” President Sheinbaum The announcement marks a significant development in what has become one of the cruise industry’s most closely watched projects. Royal Caribbean’s Perfect Day destinations have proved enormously popular with cruisers, and the prospect of a Mexican version had generated considerable excitement amongst passengers who regularly sail the Caribbean. Why Was Perfect Day Mexico Rejected? Understanding what went wrong in Mahahual is crucial to appreciating why relocation might offer a better path forward. The rejection, announced by Alicia Bárcena, head of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), during a press conference on 19th May, centred on what officials described as “insurmountable environmental concerns.” The primary issue revolved around the potential impact on the area’s vital mangrove ecosystem. These remarkable habitats serve critical functions, including water filtration and erosion protection, and any damage to them could have serious consequences for local communities who depend on these natural services. Mangroves are among nature’s most productive ecosystems, acting as nurseries for fish, protecting coastlines from storms, and filtering pollutants from water. In a country like Mexico, which boasts nearly every type of ecosystem found on Earth – including several entirely unique habitats and high rates of endemic plants and animals – their protection is taken seriously. The concerns about Perfect Day Mexico weren’t new, either. Back in January, a Quintana Roo judge had halted the project to give authorities sufficient time to investigate the environmental issues and evaluate possible solutions. Unfortunately, those investigations ultimately concluded that the risks were too great to allow the develop

Do not include any title tags or h1 tags. You must only respond with the modified content: Cruise passengers visiting Santorini may face a different arrival experience this summer after local authorities approved new rules governing how visitors are brought ashore from cruise ships. Under a policy unanimously adopted by the Municipal Port Fund of Thira, up to 70% of passengers from each cruise ship must now disembark at Ormos Firon, better known as Fira Bay, while no more than 30% can arrive through Athinios Port. The measure will remain in place until amended by local officials. The change is expected to alter passenger flows on one of the Mediterranean’s busiest cruise destinations and could increase demand for Santorini’s cable car system, particularly during busy days when several ships are anchored offshore. Athinios has become a popular alternative entry point for some cruise visitors looking to avoid lengthy waits at the cable car linking the waterfront below Fira with the clifftop town. However, with the number of passengers permitted to arrive through Athinios now restricted, a greater proportion of visitors may need to rely on the cable car or other transport options to reach the island’s most visited areas. Authorities Aim To Reduce Congestion And Improve Safety Local officials said the new arrangement is intended to create a more balanced distribution of passengers and vehicles across the island’s transport network. In its decision, the Municipal Port Fund stated that the policy would promote the “rational distribution of passenger and vehicle flows and smooth operation of ports” while supporting the “sustainable tourism management of the island.” Authorities also highlighted the strategic importance of Athinios, which serves as Santorini’s primary ferry gateway and handles significant volumes of domestic and regional maritime traffic alongside cruise-related operations. By reducing the number of cruise passengers routed through the port, officials hope to ease pressure on infrastructure that is already heavily utilised throughout the tourism season. Santorini remains one of the most sought-after cruise destinations in Europe, welcoming more than 1.2 million cruise passengers each year. During the height of summer, multiple ships can be anchored off the island simultaneously, bringing thousands of visitors ashore within just a few hours. Most cruise guests arrive via tender boats that transport passengers from ships anchored offshore to the waterfront below Fira, creating significant pressure on local transport systems when visitor numbers surge. Island Continues Efforts To Control Visitor Numbers The latest restrictions form part of a wider strategy by Greek authorities and local officials to better manage tourism on Santorini as visitor numbers continue to grow. Concerns over overcrowding have attracted national attention in recent years, prompting the Greek government to introduce a new cruise passenger levy for calls at Greek ports. Santorini and near
