Carnival Cruise & Van Leeuwen Launch Sunscreen-Flavoured Ice Cream

Ice cream and sunscreen are quintessential elements of a summer holiday. But Carnival Cruise Line and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream have taken this to a new level. They’ve created a unique sunscreen-flavoured ice cream. Yes, you read that right. This new flavour combines coconut with a hint of sea salt, aiming to encapsulate the essence of a tropical escape. Carnival cheekily introduced it as a way to “eat sunscreen” in defiance of summer’s end. Unsurprisingly, this novelty has quickly gained traction on social media.

A Tropical Treat With a Twist

Despite its unusual name, the ingredients resemble a luxurious dessert more than a bottle of SPF. It includes coconut cream, milk, cane sugar, cocoa butter, vanilla extract, and sea salt. The packaging features Carnival’s iconic red, white, and blue colours, along with its distinctive whale tail logo, paired with Van Leeuwen’s sophisticated branding. Currently, this sunscreen flavour isn’t available for public purchase. Instead, it’s been shared with influencers, who have eagerly posted their reactions online. Fans are already expressing their desire to try it, with many saying they’d gladly enjoy a bowlful.

Will It Make It Onboard?

Many Carnival cruisers are curious if this flavour will make its way onto the ships. While there’s no official confirmation, the cruise line has hinted that if the buzz continues, a limited-time offering might be introduced at sea. Guest responses suggest the flavour would be a hit, with some noting they’ve always thought sunscreen smells delicious. Carnival is informally gauging interest through social media, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Not the First Unusual Ice Cream Flavour

Van Leeuwen is renowned for crafting unique flavours alongside its traditional offerings. Past limited editions have included collaborations like Hidden Valley Ranch, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, and even Pizza ice cream. Compared to these, sunscreen might not seem too outlandish. The ice cream brand, which started in 2008, now boasts over 70 scoop shops and is widely available in US supermarkets. Whether the sunscreen flavour will make it to the Lido Deck remains uncertain, but this quirky collaboration has certainly captured attention.
