Cruise Lines Face Unique Entertainment Challenges
Cruise lines receive countless comments from guests each year. Recently, Carnival Cruise Line has been dealing with two contrasting complaints. One guest felt there wasn’t enough to do on port days, while another thought evening activities ran too late. These differing opinions highlight the challenge of creating entertainment schedules that satisfy all passengers.
Not Enough to Do on Port Days
A guest on the Mardi Gras ship expressed disappointment over the lack of activities while docked at ports. They noted that many passengers stayed on board, yet there were limited shows, trivia, and competitions. Typically, activity schedules are lighter on port days as many guests explore ashore. Crew members also take breaks or shore leave, reducing available staff for onboard events.
Despite this, Carnival usually offers puzzles, trivia, games, and workshops even when in port. Brand ambassador John Heald promised to relay the concern to Carnival teams. He also conducted a poll, revealing most guests do disembark, except in cases of bad weather or repeat visits. In this instance, storms and rain may have kept more travellers on board, increasing the demand for entertainment.
Too Much Happening at Night
Conversely, another passenger felt evening activities started too late. They suggested that shows and events should begin earlier to accommodate those who prefer an early bedtime. Carnival’s schedules include late-night comedy, deck parties, and nightclub events. However, many shows already offer both early and late performances to suit different preferences.
Dining options also vary, with some passengers dining as early as 5 pm. Heald shared this feedback in a poll, receiving over 11,000 responses. Around 2,000 agreed with starting events earlier, but the majority enjoyed staying up past 10 pm. Other guests appreciated the flexibility, enjoying some nights ending early and others extending past midnight.
Balancing Entertainment for Everyone
Carnival’s contrasting complaints underscore the difficulty of pleasing every guest’s idea of a perfect cruise. Balancing entertainment schedules is a complex task. It requires catering to diverse preferences and routines. Cruise lines strive to offer a variety of options, ensuring every passenger finds something enjoyable.
