Carnival Splendor’s October 2027 Cruise Cancelled
Carnival Cruise Line has announced the cancellation of its October 2027 sailing of the Carnival Splendor from Sydney. This decision comes after the ship was fully chartered by a private organisation. Guests who had booked the 10-night cruise, originally set to depart on 12th October 2027, received notification via email.
New Zealand North Island Itinerary Affected
The planned itinerary was a round-trip from Sydney, exploring New Zealand’s North Island. Scheduled stops included Napier, Tauranga, Auckland, and the Bay of Islands. The cruise was supposed to return to Sydney on 22nd October. However, the voyage will now proceed as a private charter, no longer available to the public.
Rebooking and Refund Options
Affected passengers have two main options: rebooking or a full refund. Those choosing to rebook can transfer their booking to another sailing, with their original cruise fare protected for a similar stateroom. However, this protection does not cover port fees, taxes, or onboard purchases. As an incentive, Carnival is offering a $100 AUD onboard credit per cabin for those who rebook.
Alternatively, guests can opt for a full refund, including any pre-paid add-ons. Refunds will be processed starting 4th April 2026, though the timeline may vary based on individual banks or payment providers.
Limited Alternatives for North Island Cruises
Travellers seeking a similar itinerary may face challenges, as North Island-focused cruises are scarce. Carnival Splendor offers various cruises from Sydney, but North Island voyages are rare. The only comparable sailing in 2027 departs on 3rd January, with most other 10-night itineraries focusing on the South Island. Another North Island option is available on 17th January 2028.
For those open to different destinations, a 10-night South Island cruise on 6th November 2027 might be an alternative, though the itinerary differs significantly. Options within the Carnival fleet from Sydney remain limited, as Carnival Adventure does not offer New Zealand sailings during late 2027.
Impact of Full-Ship Charters
Full-ship charters are common in the cruise industry and often result in the cancellation of public sailings. Carnival Splendor has previously hosted various themed cruises, including music-focused events. These charters continue to impact cruise availability, affecting travellers’ plans.
