Virgin Voyages Alters Alaska Itinerary for Safety
Virgin Voyages has announced a major change to its Alaska cruise schedule. The Brilliant Lady will no longer visit Tracy Arm Fjord during its debut season in the region. This decision follows safety concerns due to geological instability in the area.
Why Tracy Arm Fjord is Off the Itinerary
The change comes after a landslide and tsunami near South Sawyer Glacier on 10th August 2025. These events have increased the risk of further incidents in Tracy Arm Fjord. As a result, Virgin Voyages has removed this scenic destination from all 2026 sailings.
New Destinations: Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier
Guests booked on affected cruises, including the Alaska MerMaiden voyage departing Seattle on 21st May 2026, have been informed of the change. The Brilliant Lady will now visit Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier instead. These locations offer a similar glacier viewing experience without the same geological risks.
Industry-Wide Changes
Virgin Voyages is not alone in this decision. Other major cruise lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line, have also replaced Tracy Arm Fjord with Endicott Arm on select Alaska itineraries in 2026.
A Milestone for Virgin Voyages
Despite the itinerary change, the Brilliant Lady’s inaugural Alaska season remains a significant milestone. This 110,000-gross-ton ship is the first in the Virgin Voyages fleet to sail in Alaska. The ship will begin its Alaska journey in Seattle on 21st May 2026, following a debut season in Los Angeles.
Exciting New Excursion at Endicott Arm
To enhance the revised itinerary, Virgin Voyages plans to introduce a new onboard-only excursion at Endicott Arm. While details are still under wraps, guests can expect an exclusive experience that may include smaller boat tours for closer glacier views.
