Royal Caribbean Cruise Skips Jamaica Due to Propulsion Problems

Unexpected Itinerary Change for Allure of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas has encountered a propulsion issue, leading to an unexpected itinerary change. The ship, which set sail from Fort Lauderdale on 24th May, was on a six-night Western Caribbean cruise. Originally, the voyage included stops at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Falmouth in Jamaica, and Nassau in the Bahamas. However, after departing CocoCay and spending a day at sea, passengers were informed that the stop in Falmouth would be cancelled.

Technical Issues Affecting Cruise Speed

The cruise line confirmed the change in a letter to passengers, citing a technical problem with one of the ship’s propulsion systems. This issue has forced the ship to sail at a reduced speed. As a result, the itinerary had to be adjusted. Instead of heading to Jamaica, Allure of the Seas turned back towards the Bahamas, with Nassau now scheduled two days earlier than planned. Some passengers had already noticed the slower pace before the official announcement, expressing concerns about the ship’s speed.

Compensation for Affected Guests

Despite the itinerary change, the cruise will still conclude in Fort Lauderdale on 30th May 2026. Guests who had booked shore excursions in Falmouth will receive automatic cancellations and refunds as onboard credit. Any unused credit will be refunded to the card on file within 14 days after disembarkation. Additionally, Royal Caribbean is offering compensation based on cabin type. Inside and oceanview cabin guests will receive $100 in onboard credit, while those in oceanview balcony or neighbourhood balcony staterooms will receive $150. Suite guests will receive $200, with an extra $50 for each additional guest in the cabin.

Revised Schedule for Nassau

The ship will now spend Wednesday in Nassau, allowing guests to explore the island’s beauty and charm. This will be followed by the originally planned sea day, before returning to Nassau again on Friday, 29th May. Royal Caribbean assures guests that they will have ample time to enjoy Nassau’s attractions. No changes have been announced for the ship’s next sailing, an eight-night Eastern Caribbean cruise departing Fort Lauderdale on 30th May 2026.

Future Itinerary Adjustments

This propulsion-related change is the latest in a series of itinerary adjustments for Allure of the Seas. Two separate sailings in 2027 have been shortened by one day. Passengers are advised to stay informed about any further updates to their travel plans.
