Holland America Line has announced exciting upgrades to the Oosterdam.
Its newly renovated Oosterdam will debut with 30 purpose-built solo cabins when it emerges from dry dock in December 2027.
The reimagined vessel will sail a variety of Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries from Fort Lauderdale throughout the winter 2027–2028 season, marking a significant step in the cruise line’s fleet-wide modernisation programme.
Evolution Programme Transforms Vista-Class Fleet
Holland America Line’s ambitious “Evolution” modernisation programme aims to upgrade its entire mid-sized Vista-class fleet by incorporating popular venues and cabin layouts from the line’s newest Pinnacle-class vessels. The initiative addresses the need to refresh older ships whilst maintaining the classic Holland America experience that loyal passengers expect.
Oosterdam, which has been sailing for 23 years as the second ship in the Vista-class series, represents a significant milestone in this fleet-wide transformation. The 82,305 gross tonne vessel is receiving one of the most comprehensive makeovers in the programme, with enhancements spanning both public spaces and accommodation.
The Evolution programme reflects Holland America’s commitment to remaining competitive in an increasingly crowded cruise market. By bringing modern amenities and contemporary designs to its existing fleet, the cruise line ensures that passengers choosing older vessels aren’t sacrificing comfort or style compared to newer ships in the industry.

These purpose-built cabins span 200 square feet and feature private teak-lined balconies, offering solo cruisers genuine outdoor space to enjoy morning coffee or evening sunsets. The thoughtful layout includes a dedicated workspace – a nod to the increasing number of remote workers who combine business with leisure travel – alongside a modern bathroom with glass-walled shower.
The Solo Verandah staterooms are strategically positioned on decks 8 and 11, ensuring solo passengers enjoy the same desirable locations as other guests rather than being relegated to less favourable areas of the ship. Full signature amenities come standard, and passengers won’t face the traditionally steep single supplement fees that have long discouraged solo travellers from choosing cruise holidays.
This development reflects broader industry recognition that solo cruising is no longer a niche market. Single travellers represent one of the fastest-growing segments in the cruise industry, and Holland America’s investment in
