Carnival Rewards Diamond And Platinum Members Receive Clarity On Complimentary Drinks

Carnival Cruise Line has provided detailed clarification on how Diamond and Platinum Carnival Rewards members can maximise their two complimentary drinks benefit, including how the perk interacts with the cruise line’s limited-time FunPack bundles.

The announcement comes as confusion amongst loyalty programme members has prompted questions about when the free beverages are applied and how passengers can control their usage throughout their sailing.

John Heald, Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador, took to his Facebook account on Wednesday, 28th October 2026, to address recurring questions from Diamond and Platinum guests about their complimentary beverage benefit. In a video message, Heald acknowledged that many passengers remain uncertain about the mechanics of claiming their two free drinks.

The complimentary beverage perk has been a cornerstone benefit for upper-tier loyalty members, available under both the previous “Very Important Fun Person” (VIFP) programme, which concluded on 31st August 2026, and the current Carnival Rewards structure.

Despite the benefit’s popularity, the operational details of how and when the drinks are applied to guests’ accounts have generated persistent confusion amongst cruisers.

Automatic Application Of Complimentary Beverages Explained

Heald clarified that Carnival’s standard policy automatically applies a Diamond or Platinum guest’s first two beverage orders as their complimentary drinks unless passengers specifically request otherwise. This default setting means that passengers who are unaware of the automatic application may inadvertently use their free drinks on items they might otherwise have preferred to pay for separately.

“When you get on board, and unless you tell the bartender or the bar server that you do not want your first two drinks to be those complimentary ones, they will automatically make it,” Heald explained in the video. This policy applies from the moment guests board the vessel and begin ordering beverages, whether at embarkation or later during the sailing.

The automatic application system is designed to ensure that all eligible guests receive their loyalty benefits without having to remember to claim them. However, for passengers who prefer to strategically save their complimentary drinks for higher-value beverages later in the cruise, understanding how to override this default becomes essential.

How Guests Can Save Complimentary Drinks For Later Use

Carnival’s system allows Diamond and Platinum members complete control over when they use their two free beverages, provided they communicate their preferences to bar staff. Heald provided a practical example to illustrate how simple the process is for guests who wish to preserve their complimentary drinks.

“If you go up to the bartender and say, could I have a bottle of water, I’m really thirsty, the bartender gives you a bottle of water. Unless you say, please do no
