Carnival Cruise Line Delays New Loyalty Programme Launch
Carnival Cruise Line has announced a delay in the launch of its new Carnival Rewards loyalty programme. Originally set to debut on 1st June 2026, the programme will now kick off on 1st September 2026. This change allows returning guests more time to qualify for higher status under the current VIFP Club system.
Maximise Your VIFP Club Status
The delay offers a golden opportunity for cruise enthusiasts. Guests can continue to earn VIFP points throughout the bustling summer 2026 cruise season. This is particularly beneficial for those on the cusp of reaching a higher tier. Platinum members aiming for Diamond status will find this extension especially advantageous.
New Loyalty System Details
Once Carnival Rewards launches, Diamond will be the sole lifetime tier. All other levels will need to be re-earned regularly. Carnival has also been offering double and triple points on select sailings. These promotions may continue, providing a boost for those eager to climb the loyalty ladder before the transition.
Understanding the Two-Year Earning Cycles
Carnival has outlined how the new loyalty system will function. Status will be earned in two-year cycles, from 1st January to 31st December. However, the initial earning period will be extended. It will run from 31st August 2026 to 31st December 2028. The stars earned during this time will determine a guest’s status for the next phase, spanning from 1st January 2029 to 31st December 2031.
How to Earn Stars
Under the new system, stars will be awarded based on spending. Guests will earn 3 stars for every $1 spent on cruise fares and onboard purchases. Additionally, 1 star will be earned for every casino point. Those using the Carnival Rewards Mastercard will receive 4 stars per $1 for cruise fares and onboard spending, with casino earnings remaining unchanged.
Status Thresholds Explained
The thresholds for each status level have been confirmed. To achieve Gold, guests need 10,000 stars. Platinum requires 50,000 stars, while Diamond demands 100,000 stars. Unlike Gold and Platinum, which must be re-earned every two years, Diamond status is for life.
Points and Rewards
In addition to stars, guests will accumulate points that can be redeemed for rewards. These points are tracked separately from loyalty status. Points are earned at a rate of 3 points per $1 spent on cruise fares and onboard purchases, and 1 point per casino point. Extra points can be earned for everyday spending with the Carnival Rewards Mastercard.
This delay in the Carnival Rewards launch provides a unique chance for UK cruise holidaygoers to maximise their current VIFP Club status. With the opportunity to earn more points and stars, guests can set sail towards higher tiers and enjoy enhanced benefits.
