Carnival Sued: Guest Injured in Nassau Pig Excursion Bench Collapse

Carnival Cruise Line Faces Legal Battle Over Shore Excursion Incident

Carnival Cruise Line is embroiled in a legal dispute following an alleged injury during a shore excursion in Nassau, Bahamas. A former guest of the Carnival Elation, Karolrae Knight, has taken legal action against the cruise operator. She claims she was injured while travelling to the “Swimming with the Pigs: Express” excursion.

Details of the Incident

The lawsuit was filed on 20th March 2026 in the Southern District of Florida. The incident reportedly occurred on 24th March 2025. Knight had booked the excursion through Carnival, which included a brief boat ride to Pig Beach and a 30-minute interaction with the pigs. However, the outing took a turn for the worse before it even began.

Allegations of Unsafe Conditions

Knight alleges that while seated on a bench with two other passengers, the seat collapsed unexpectedly. This happened about 10 minutes after the boat departed, despite calm waters. The sudden collapse allegedly caused Knight to be thrown violently onto the vessel’s floor, nearly falling overboard. The lawsuit claims the seating was not fit for its intended purpose.

Injuries and Aftermath

Following the incident, Knight was unable to continue with the excursion. She was taken back to the Carnival Elation, where the ship’s medical team diagnosed her with a fractured tailbone. Her condition reportedly worsened after the cruise, with further medical evaluations revealing more severe spinal injuries.

Seeking Compensation

Knight is pursuing damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and lost holiday costs. She has requested a jury trial to resolve the matter. The lawsuit argues that Carnival should be held accountable, even though the excursion was operated by an independent contractor.

Legal Arguments and Carnival’s Position

Knight’s legal team contends that Carnival marketed and sold the excursion, profiting from it without providing adequate warnings about potential risks. This point is central to the legal dispute. Carnival’s shore excursion terms state that tours are operated by independent contractors, not the cruise line itself. This distinction may play a crucial role in the court proceedings.

Conclusion

This case highlights the complexities of liability in cruise excursions. As the legal battle unfolds, it serves as a reminder for cruise holidaygoers to be aware of the terms and conditions of their excursions. Stay informed and ensure you understand who is responsible for your safety during these adventures.
