Introducing the Revamped National Geographic Explorers-in-Training Programme
National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has unveiled its refreshed youth education initiative, the National Geographic Explorers-in-Training. This programme is a reimagined version of the previously celebrated Global Explorers programme. It is now available on select family-friendly cruises to destinations like Alaska, Antarctica, Baja California, Iceland, and the Galápagos Islands. Announced in July, this update aims to captivate young travellers with hands-on learning and discovery. It reflects the rising trend of multigenerational expedition cruising.
A Unique Educational Experience for Young Travellers
Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions, emphasises the programme’s unique approach. “Our expanded National Geographic Explorers-in-Training programme is designed to be an engaging educational experience for our young explorers,” she explains. Unlike a typical ‘kids club,’ this programme offers an age-appropriate expedition experience. The new name better captures its essence and mission.
A Scientific Adventure for the Next Generation
Originally launched in 2017 with National Geographic Education, the programme has been updated with new activities. It continues to promote exploration, environmental stewardship, and storytelling. Each itinerary features certified field educators who lead science and cultural activities tailored to different age groups. Participants benefit from the expertise of National Geographic photographers, naturalists, and undersea specialists.
Hands-On Learning and Exploration
Young explorers receive a field notebook unique to each region. They record wildlife sightings, complete challenges, and journal their discoveries. At the expedition’s end, each child is awarded a commemorative patch and certificate. Highlights include wildlife observation, underwater exploration, storytelling, and hands-on science activities like plankton collection and onboard experiments.
Featured Itineraries for Families
The Explorers-in-Training programme is available on select itineraries. In the Galápagos, families can snorkel with sea lions and hike black-sand beaches. In Alaska’s Inside Passage, they can kayak alongside marine life and watch for whales. Baja California offers the chance to spot dolphins and multiple whale species. In Antarctica, families can skip the Drake Passage by air and maximise their time exploring the ice.
Special Offers and Unforgettable Experiences
These itineraries provide unforgettable experiences for families seeking adventure and education. The programme’s unique approach ensures that young travellers are not just entertained but also educated. With the National Geographic Explorers-in-Training programme, families can embark on a journey of discovery and learning.
