Embark on a Long-Term Cruise Adventure
A US-based cruise company, Villa Vie Residences, has unveiled a series of extended world voyages. These unique itineraries allow travellers to remain at sea for several years. Some passengers might only return home after the next US presidential inauguration.
Escape the Political Climate
Villa Vie Residences offers a 3.5-year continuous itinerary. Initially marketed to Americans, it provides an escape from the political climate during Donald Trump’s second term. The announcement came after the US presidential election, tapping into post-election sentiments. However, Villa Vie’s CEO, Mikael Petterson, clarified that the campaign isn’t politically motivated. “We just wanted to offer an escape for those feeling threatened,” he explained.
Increased Interest Post-Election
Following the election, interest in these cruises surged. Many Americans are keen on a long-term escape from domestic politics. Despite Trump’s term being partially completed, the allure of a lengthy cruise remains strong.
Luxury at a Price
These extended voyages cater to those seeking luxury, not budget travellers. A 5-year residential plan starts at $49,999 for the most basic cabin. Monthly fees are $2,999 for solo travellers and $3,999 for couples. This includes accommodation, meals, non-alcoholic drinks, WiFi, and medical visits. Weekly housekeeping and bi-weekly laundry services are also provided. Alcoholic drinks are complimentary only during dinner.
Stay Politically Engaged
For those worried about missing out on political participation, Villa Vie has a solution. Residents can vote while at sea. Mail-in ballots for the 2026 midterm and 2028 presidential elections will be sent to the company’s office and then forwarded to the ship.
The Villa Vie Odyssey
The Villa Vie Odyssey can host up to 600 residents. It has embarked on a 15-year global journey, visiting over 425 ports in 140 countries. The itinerary covers all seven continents, 13 World Wonders, and more than 100 tropical islands. Early highlights include a month in the Caribbean, four months in South America, and an Antarctic sail-by. Passengers will also experience Carnival in Rio and an Amazon River expedition.
A Slower Pace of Travel
Anne Alms, head of sales for Villa Vie Residences, emphasises the appeal of a slower travel pace. This unique cruise experience offers a chance to explore the world at leisure, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
