Princess Cruises has unveiled an exciting new chapter in its storied history. Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, are set to become the godparents of the brand-new Star Princess. This tradition, which has seen icons like Princess Diana and Audrey Hepburn, continues with the Hollywood couple. The official christening will take place in Fort Lauderdale on 6 November 2025, marking the start of the ship’s Caribbean adventures.
Why the McConaugheys?
The McConaugheys bring more than just star power to this role. They are the co-founders of Pantalones Organic Tequila, a brand already popular across Princess Cruises’ fleet. Their tequila is a key ingredient in the 24K Gold Margarita, part of the Love Line Premium Liquors collection. According to Princess Cruises President Gus Antorcha, the couple’s energy and warmth perfectly align with the spirit of the new ship. Their passion and charisma make them ideal godparents for the Star Princess.
About Star Princess
The Star Princess is a marvel of modern cruising. Weighing in at 177,800 tonnes, she can accommodate over 4,300 guests. She is the sister ship to the recently launched Sun Princess. Her debut will be in Barcelona on 4 October 2025, before she sails across the Atlantic for her Caribbean season. The ship boasts several standout features, including The Sanctuary Collection, a luxurious private zone with an exclusive restaurant and adults-only pool deck. The Dome offers a futuristic space for relaxation and entertainment, while The Princess Arena is the most advanced theatre in the fleet. Where She’ll Sail
Following her christening, the Star Princess will embark on Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale starting 7 November 2025. She will later navigate the Panama Canal to begin her inaugural Alaska season in summer 2026. Voyages are available for booking through 2027. Princess Cruises describes the new Sphere Class ships as their most innovative yet, blending large-ship amenities with a personalised, yacht-style experience.
