MSC Group Reveals Sandy Cay: New Luxury Private Island for 2028 Cruises

Introducing Sandy Cay: MSC’s New Private Island Retreat

MSC Group’s Cruise Division is set to unveil Sandy Cay, a new private island destination in The Bahamas, opening in 2028. This exclusive retreat will cater to guests sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys. Positioned as a serene escape, Sandy Cay will complement the existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, offering a more intimate experience.

A Secluded Paradise

Announced on 13th April 2026, Sandy Cay promises a tranquil beach getaway. It aims to connect visitors with the natural beauty of The Bahamas. Named for its bright white aragonite sands, the island will provide a peaceful retreat while maintaining the nature-focused ethos of Ocean Cay. This addition gives MSC a second private island destination in the Bahamian waters, expanding options for both its contemporary and luxury cruise brands.

Ocean Cay Enhancements

Before Sandy Cay opens, Ocean Cay will undergo significant upgrades, set for completion in late 2027. These enhancements include new guest facilities, additional dining venues, and fresh beach concepts for families and adults. Expanded relaxation areas and conservation-focused experiences are also planned. The island’s pier will be extended to accommodate two ships simultaneously, showcasing MSC’s commitment to enhancing its Bahamas offerings.

Strategic Expansion in the Caribbean

Private islands and beach clubs are becoming crucial in Caribbean cruise strategies. They allow cruise lines to control the guest experience and differentiate their itineraries. MSC is pushing this strategy further as it expands in North America and builds its luxury business. The timing aligns with MSC Group’s broader expansion plans, with Explora Journeys expecting six ships by 2028. Sandy Cay will play a vital role in the luxury line’s offerings as capacity grows.

Strengthening MSC’s Caribbean Presence

For MSC Cruises, Sandy Cay adds a high-profile Caribbean asset, reinforcing its presence in the region. Ocean Cay has already become a signature destination for the brand. Sandy Cay aims to attract travellers seeking a more exclusive experience. As competition for private destinations intensifies, MSC’s investment in The Bahamas highlights its commitment to providing unique and memorable cruise experiences.
