Norwegian Cruise Line Launches Waterpark & Upgrades at Great Stirrup Cay

Just over a year after Norwegian Cruise Line announced a new pier for Great Stirrup Cay, they have revealed even more exciting plans for their private island in the Bahamas. By summer 2026, the island will feature the Great Tides Waterpark. This nearly six-acre attraction aims to compete with other popular private destinations like Royal Caribbean’s CocoCay and Carnival’s Celebration Key.

A Bold Vision: Great Tides Waterpark

The highlight of this expansion is the Great Tides Waterpark. It promises a mix of family-friendly and thrilling attractions. The Tidal Tower will stand 170 feet tall, boasting 19 unique waterslides. These include racing slides, tube slides, and steep drops. Cliffside Cove will offer the cruise industry’s first cliff jumps, with heights of 10 and 15 feet.

For younger guests, a 9,000-square-foot splash zone will feature tipping buckets, mini slides, and fountains. The park will also have the Caribbean’s only family raft slide, accommodating four riders. An 800-foot “dynamic river” will provide a more exciting alternative to a lazy river, with faster currents and a bioluminescent grotto tunnel.

In a unique twist, Norwegian will introduce “jet karts.” This water-based racing experience combines go-karts and jet skis, offering an exclusive shore excursion.

Island Enhancements Begin in Late 2025

Although the waterpark will open in summer 2026, enhancements will start by late 2025. A new pier will be constructed, eliminating the need for tendering. This will improve reliability and accessibility for visiting ships, reducing weather-related cancellations.

Great Life Lagoon

The Great Life Lagoon will be a serene retreat. It will feature a heated lagoon pool, cabana and villa rentals, and two swim-up bars. The Reef Bar and Waves Bar will serve beverages for both adults and children.

Splash Harbor and Horizon Park

Splash Harbor will entertain children with interactive water features. Meanwhile, Horizon Park will offer dryland activities. Guests can enjoy pickleball, a nine-hole mini-golf course, a sports court, and lawn games like ring toss and cornhole.

Vibe Shore Club and Hammock Bay

Adults seeking peace can head to Vibe Shore Club. This adults-only area will mirror the popular Vibe Beach Club on Norwegian ships. It will offer premium loungers, umbrellas, and villa rentals, with a day pass required. Hammock Bay will provide a tranquil escape with its deli and relaxing atmosphere.

Norwegian Cruise Line is set to transform Great Stirrup Cay into a must-visit destination. With these exciting developments, UK cruise holidaygoers have much to look forward to. Whether you seek adventure or relaxation, this island promises an unforgettable experience.
