Travellers can now enjoy their “Free at Sea” drink benefits on Great Stirrup Cay without any additional costs. This update has been communicated to travel agents and is now reflected on Norwegian Cruise Line’s website. The island is no longer listed as an exclusion for the package.

A travel agent shared the good news on social media, confirming that guests with the “Free at Sea” package can continue to enjoy their drinks on the island. Those who upgraded to the “Free at Sea Plus” package can cancel or downgrade if their cruise is at least three days away.
Why the Original Policy Faced Criticism
The initial policy change would have removed access to standard onboard drink packages at Great Stirrup Cay. Guests were encouraged to upgrade to the pricier “Free at Sea Plus” package to maintain drink privileges. This upgrade came at a cost of $49.99 per person, per day, compared to the standard rate of $28.50. Over a week-long cruise, this would have added an extra £150.43 per guest.
Guest Reactions and Cruise Line Response
The proposed change faced backlash from cruisers, leading Norwegian Cruise Line to delay its implementation. Eventually, the cruise line decided to abandon the change altogether. Basic drinks like water, lemonade, tea, and coffee remain included in the cruise fare, with other options available for purchase.
Temporary Return to Tender Operations
In another update, Norwegian Cruise Line announced a temporary return to tender operations at Great Stirrup Cay. This change is due to ongoing construction work on a permanent pier. Although a temporary pier was used in late 2025, ships will now anchor offshore while the new pier is built.
Construction Timeline and Guest Experience
Tendering will resume in April and is expected to continue until July. This process can sometimes cause delays and missed port calls in poor weather. However, the cruise line aims to complete construction by July, just in time for the debut of the new Great Tid.
