Introducing Norwegian Luna: A New Era in Cruise Travel
Norwegian Cruise Line has proudly added a new gem to its fleet. The Norwegian Luna is set to embark on her maiden voyage in the Caribbean this month. This impressive vessel, weighing in at 156,000 gross tons, was constructed at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard near Venice. She is the 21st ship in the fleet and marks a significant milestone for the cruise line.
Prima Plus Class: A Step Forward
Norwegian Luna is the second ship in the innovative Prima Plus Class. This class is an evolution of the Prima Class, offering more space and luxury. At 1,053 feet long, she can host 3,565 guests in 1,809 staterooms. This makes her about 10% larger than her predecessors, Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva. As a result, she stands among the largest ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet.
Craftsmanship and Innovation
The construction of Norwegian Luna involved around 3,000 skilled workers. Luigi Matarazzo, general manager of Fincantieri’s Merchant Ships division, expressed pride in delivering a ship that sets new industry standards. The Prima Plus Class showcases cutting-edge design and construction excellence, reflecting the evolving global cruise industry.
A Unique Experience Awaits
Marc Kazlauskas, president of NCL, highlighted the ship’s alignment with the brand’s ethos, “It’s Different Out Here.” Norwegian Luna promises freedom, flexibility, and curated experiences. Guests can tailor their holiday to their preferences, ensuring a memorable journey. The ship’s introduction is eagerly anticipated, with the first guests set to board soon.
Caribbean Adventures and US Debut
Following her delivery, Norwegian Luna will embark on a transatlantic journey from Civitavecchia on 10th March. She is expected to reach Miami by 23rd March 2026. Her official christening ceremony will take place at PortMiami on 27th March 2026. In her inaugural year, she will offer a mix of short Bahamas trips and longer Caribbean cruises. Guests can choose from three and four-night Bahamas voyages or seven-night Caribbean itineraries.
Exploring the Eastern Caribbean
Between 11th April and 7th November 2026, Norwegian Luna will focus on Eastern Caribbean routes. Ports of call include Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island. These destinations promise sun-soaked adventures and unforgettable experiences.
Norwegian Luna is more than just a ship; she represents a new chapter in cruise travel. With her innovative design and diverse itineraries, she is set to offer UK holidaygoers an unparalleled cruising experience.
