Royal Caribbean Announces Freedom of the Seas to Replace Mariner in 2027

Exciting Changes for UK Cruise Enthusiasts in 2027

Royal Caribbean has announced a major change for its 2027 cruise schedule, bringing exciting news for UK holidaygoers. Freedom of the Seas will take over the Southampton sailings from Mariner of the Seas. This shift is part of a broader fleet reorganisation, clarifying earlier cancellations that affected Mariner of the Seas. The cruise line has confirmed that Mariner will be redeployed, while Freedom of the Seas will now lead the UK programme.

Freedom of the Seas: A New Era from Southampton

Starting in May 2027, the 3,960-passenger Freedom of the Seas will operate from Southampton until October. This ship, which debuted in 2006, is slightly larger than the 3,344-passenger Mariner of the Seas. Originally, Freedom was scheduled to sail from Miami during this period. However, it will now take over the same departure dates initially planned for Mariner, with some itinerary adjustments. Certain ports have been changed or removed, but the essence of the voyages remains.

What to Expect from Freedom of the Seas

From its new base in the UK, Freedom of the Seas will offer a variety of itineraries to Northern and Western Europe throughout the summer. This ship provides more amenities and a seamless experience for UK guests, continuing the legacy of its sister ships, Independence of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas, which have sailed from Southampton in recent years. While many sailings will resemble those planned for Mariner, some differences in ports of call or routes may occur.

Options for Affected Passengers

Passengers originally booked on Mariner sailings have several options. They can transfer to the equivalent Freedom of the Seas cruise, often on the same date, with the cruise line striving to offer a like-for-like replacement. If no action is taken, guests will automatically be moved to a comparable stateroom on Freedom of the Seas. Alternatively, they can rebook another Royal Caribbean sailing with waived change fees or cancel for a full refund. However, those opting for a more expensive cruise will need to cover any fare difference.

Mariner of the Seas: New Adventures Await

While Royal Caribbean has not fully disclosed Mariner of the Seas’ new summer plans, the ship is set to leave the UK before the season begins. A 17-night transatlantic journey departing from New Orleans on 24th April 2027 will take Mariner to the Mediterranean. Ports of call include Casablanca, Tangier, and Málaga, with the voyage concluding in Barcelona. This repositioning promises new adventures for Mariner and its passengers.
