UK Cruise Passenger’s Gestures in Ensenada Cause Controversy

A Viral Cruise Incident: Late Passenger’s Gesture Sparks Debate

A recent cruise incident in Ensenada, Mexico, has captured the internet’s attention. A woman, returning late to her ship, was filmed making offensive gestures towards fellow passengers. This event, shared widely on social media, took place during a Carnival cruise stop.

What Happened on the Pier

Witnesses reported that the woman arrived well after the designated “all aboard” time. She was part of a small group returning late. As she walked towards the gangway, she raised her middle finger at guests watching from the ship.

Two passengers ahead of her sprinted back and apologised, receiving cheers from those onboard. However, the final pair, including the woman, were met with boos due to their behaviour. The ship, believed to be Carnival Firenze, visited Ensenada on 17th November 2025.

Why ‘Pier Running’ Is So Controversial

“Pier running” is a term familiar to cruise enthusiasts. It describes guests who return to the ship at the last minute or even after the departure time. This often causes delays and disrupts schedules.

While some view it as light-hearted entertainment, it can lead to increased port costs and frustration for punctual passengers. Cruise lines have strict rules, and ships typically sail without latecomers unless they are on an organised excursion.

Could There Be Consequences?

Carnival Cruise Line, like many operators, has a Code of Conduct for guest behaviour. Violations can lead to fines, restrictions, or even removal from the ship. It’s unclear if any action was taken against the woman involved in this incident.

Crew members may remind pier runners of their responsibilities. The antagonistic behaviour displayed in this case could lead to further consequences. Cruise lines aim to ensure a smooth experience for all passengers, and adherence to schedules is crucial.
