A Royal Caribbean Cruise Mishap: Lessons for UK Travellers
A recent incident involving a Royal Caribbean guest highlights the importance of double-checking travel details. A passenger missed their cruise departure after mistakenly travelling to the wrong port in Florida. This serves as a cautionary tale for UK cruise holidaygoers.
How the Mix-Up Happened
The passenger was booked on the Utopia of the Seas, departing from Port Canaveral on 12th January 2026. However, they mistakenly went to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale. The confusion arose because of a previous cruise that had departed from Fort Lauderdale. The guest assumed Port Canaveral was the same as their last departure point.
Realising the Error
The mistake was only discovered after the ship had sailed. By then, it was too late to reach Port Canaveral. The drive from Port Everglades to Port Canaveral takes at least three hours. This doesn’t include the time needed for check-in and security. With Utopia of the Seas departing at 4 pm, there was no chance to board before the deadline.
Denied Boarding in Nassau
The guest hoped to join the cruise at its next stop in Nassau. They contacted Royal Caribbean and booked refundable flights from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau. Other travellers on Reddit noted that Nassau is easy to reach by air. However, permission to board at a port of call requires local authority approval, not just the cruise line’s consent.
Lessons for Future Cruises
Despite their efforts, the request to join the cruise in Nassau was denied. This incident underscores the importance of verifying all travel details. Always double-check your departure port and ensure you have the correct information. This simple step can save you from a major travel mishap.
For UK travellers planning a cruise, this story serves as a reminder. Always confirm your travel details and allow ample time for any unexpected changes. Happy cruising!
