Five Cruise Passengers Arrested After Nassau Port Brawl Escalates Into Clash With Police

Five cruise passengers have been arrested after a fight at Nassau Cruise Port spiralled into a violent confrontation with police officers, leaving four members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force injured and causing damage at a local police station.

The incident unfolded shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Monday, 8th June, when officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving several cruise visitors in the busy port area.

Authorities confirmed that three women and two men, all citizens of the United States, were taken into custody following the altercation.

Video footage captured at the scene and widely shared on social media shows a chaotic confrontation between passengers, with individuals exchanging punches and pushing one another as port personnel attempted to intervene and separate those involved.

While police have not disclosed what led to the dispute, footage circulating online appears to show the confrontation involving a younger group of passengers and an elderly couple. The circumstances surrounding the initial argument remain under investigation.

Situation Escalated At Police Station

The disturbance did not end when the passengers were removed from the port.

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers transported the five suspects to the Tourism Police Station for processing. However, police allege that while preparations were being made to search the individuals, the group began “violently struggling” with officers.

Investigators said one female suspect threw a chair through a glass door, shattering it. During the same incident, a male suspect allegedly kicked out the remaining glass in what police believe was an attempt to escape custody.

Additional police units were dispatched to the station to assist in bringing the situation under control, and officers were able to restrain the individuals involved.

The five passengers could now face multiple charges, including assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, fighting in a public place, malicious damage and disorderly behaviour.

Four Officers Injured

The confrontation resulted in injuries to four police officers.

According to authorities, two officers suffered blows to their bodies during the struggle, while another sustained a cut to the mouth. A fourth officer suffered a serious shoulder injury and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Police have not released an update on the condition of the injured officer.

The passengers involved in the original fight also received minor injuries and were treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene.

A witness who recorded part of the altercation, Facebook user Joshua H. Mott, claimed the passengers were travelling aboard one of the Royal Caribbean ships visiting Nassau that day. Officials have not publicly confirmed which vessel the group sailed on.
