Hero Of The Seas Reaches Final Hull Milestone

Royal Caribbean’s fourth Icon-class vessel, Hero of the Seas, has completed a major construction phase with the final hull block now lifted into place at Meyer Turku Shipyard in Finland.

The 248,633 gross tonne ship reached this critical milestone on 17th July 2026, marking the completion of her hull construction and allowing the shipyard to shift focus towards preparing the vessel for delivery next year.

Meyer Turku Shipyard officially confirmed the completion of Hero of the Seas’ hull construction, sharing photographs that showcase the vessel’s distinctive silhouette now fully formed at the Finnish facility.

The final block installation represents a pivotal moment in the ship’s construction timeline, transitioning the project from structural assembly to the intricate fitting-out phase that will transform the steel hull into a fully operational cruise ship.

Project Manager Kalle Hyytiä emphasised the rapid progress being made on the vessel. “Construction of the vessel is progressing rapidly,” he stated. “Next, our focus will shift to the float-out and ensuring the vessel is ready for commissioning.”

The float-out ceremony, a maritime tradition where a ship first touches water, will mark another significant milestone in Hero of the Seas’ journey from concept to reality.

Following this event, the vessel will undergo extensive commissioning activities, including the installation and testing of all onboard systems, entertainment venues, dining facilities, and guest accommodations.

Construction Timeline Demonstrates Efficient Build Process

The construction journey of Hero of the Seas began in September 2025 with a traditional keel laying ceremony. Royal Caribbean leadership, Meyer Turku Shipyard executives, and the construction team gathered to mark the official start of the build process, a ceremony that has maritime roots stretching back centuries and symbolises good fortune for the vessel.

By mid-January 2026, the project had progressed significantly, with the first prefabricated cabin modules being lifted into position. This modular construction approach allows for greater efficiency and quality control, as cabins can be fully fitted out in factory conditions before being installed aboard the ship.

Just weeks later, the massive Pearl structure – a signature architectural element of Royal Caribbean’s Icon-class vessels – was carefully manoeuvred into place.

This complex installation required precise engineering and coordination, as the Pearl serves as both a visual focal point and functional space aboard the ship.
