PortMiami has achieved an unprecedented milestone, welcoming its 10 millionth cruise passenger on 14th September 2026. This marks the highest annual volume in the Florida port’s history.
The achievement came with more than two weeks still remaining in fiscal year 2026, representing nearly 17% growth over the previous year’s record of 8.56 million passengers.
The scale of PortMiami’s growth becomes even more apparent when examining the numbers in detail. The port has added at least 1,435,775 passenger movements beyond the fiscal year 2025 record, with additional time remaining before the current fiscal year concludes on 30th September 2026.
This remarkable 17% increase represents a significant acceleration compared to the more modest 4% growth recorded between fiscal year 2024 and fiscal year 2025.
The dramatic jump signals that PortMiami has entered a new phase of expansion, fuelled by strategic infrastructure investments and an increasingly diverse roster of cruise lines choosing Miami as their homeport.
The historic 10-millionth passenger passed through the port on a day when six vessels were berthed simultaneously. This demonstrates the facility’s capacity to handle multiple large-scale operations concurrently.
Those ships included Resilient Lady, Norwegian Getaway, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Conquest, MSC Seaside, and Wonder of the Seas, though port officials did not disclose which specific vessel the milestone passenger sailed aboard.
Investment In Terminal Infrastructure Drives Unprecedented Growth
Port Director and CEO Jonathan Daniels attributed the record-breaking achievement to collaborative efforts across the entire cruise ecosystem.
“I’m immensely proud of our team and cruise and port partners, whose collaborative efforts made this achievement possible,” Daniels said in a statement celebrating the milestone.
“Reaching 10 million passengers reflects our focus on innovation, efficiency and superior passenger experience, as we continue to modernise PortMiami’s infrastructure and expand our capacity for future growth,” he added.
The port’s leadership has long recognised that accommodating modern cruise ships – particularly the newest mega-ships carrying 5,000 to 7,000 passengers – requires substantial investment in both physical infrastructure and operational systems.
PortMiami has pursued an aggressive modernisation programme designed to future-proof the facility against the industry’s rapid evolution.
These infrastructure improvements extend beyond simply building larger terminals. The port has invested in advanced passenger processing systems, improved ground transportation networks, and enhanced security measures that allow for faster embarkation and disembarkation whilst maintaining the highest safety standards.
