Royal Caribbean is carrying out essential plumbing maintenance aboard Oasis of the Seas on Wednesday, 30th September 2026, requiring toilets in affected areas to be taken out of service during two separate two-hour periods.
The work involves temporarily shutting down the ship’s vacuum system, which is required for the toilets to operate. Guests were notified that toilets would be unavailable from 10am until noon and again from 1pm until 3pm.
The maintenance is scheduled to take place while Oasis of the Seas is docked in Nassau, Bahamas, potentially reducing the number of passengers aboard during the shutdown periods.
“To ensure our plumbing system continues to operate at the highest standard, our team will be performing essential maintenance that requires temporarily shutting off the ship’s vacuum system,” the notification to guests said. “During this time, toilets will not be operational.”
Royal Caribbean has not disclosed the precise nature of the maintenance or confirmed how much of the ship’s plumbing system will be affected.
Maintenance Scheduled During Nassau Visit
Oasis of the Seas is visiting Nassau as part of a seven-night Perfect Day Bahamas sailing that departed New York City on Sunday, 27th September.
The itinerary has already been disrupted by a nor’easter affecting the region. The ship departed New York later than originally planned and its scheduled visit to Port Canaveral on Tuesday, 29th September was dropped from the itinerary.
The Nassau call remained in place, although its timings were changed. Oasis of the Seas is scheduled to be alongside from 7.30am until 5.30pm on Wednesday, rather than the originally planned 10.30am arrival.
Both periods of plumbing work therefore fall during the port call, when passengers have the opportunity to be ashore. The ship is then scheduled to visit Perfect Day at CocoCay on Thursday, 1st October.
Royal Caribbean told guests that the work was expected to be completed by the end of the second maintenance period.
“Our team will be working diligently to ensure everything is fully restored and functioning properly by 3:00 PM, allowing you to continue enjoying your vacation without interruption,” the letter said.
It is not clear whether every toilet aboard Oasis of the Seas will be affected. Reports from passengers indicated that the notice had been delivered to some decks but had not been received in other areas of the ship.
Guests on Decks 11 and 12 were among those reported to have received the notification, while some passengers staying on Decks 6, 9, 10 and 14 said they had not. That does not necessarily establish the extent of the affected area, as notices may have been distributed at different times.
Second Similar Shutdown In Two Months
The maintenance follows a similar shutdown of the vacuum system aboard Oasis of the Seas earlier this summer.
